The Don'ts of the Desert
Important information for Joshua Tree Visitors that you may not see anywhere else.
There's Lots to Do In the Desert- and There's Several Don'ts
DON'T #1: Touch the Cholla
I did. You don't have to.
DON'T #2: Trust Every Dirt Road
Just because Google Maps drew a line doesn't mean your vehicle belongs on it.
DON'T #3: Enter the Park Without Water
There isn't a convenience store around the next bend.
DON'T #4: Assume February Means Warm
Desert sunshine can be very deceptive.
DON'T #5: Treat Joshua Trees Like Playground
Equipment
The trees are fragile- some are old
DON'T #6: Expect Your Phone to Save You
DON'T #7: Chase the Perfect Sunset Too Far From Your Car
DON'T #8: Leave Your Gas Tank for Later
DON'T #9: Be That Airbnb Guest
Noise travels really well across an otherwise silent desert.
DON'T #10: Try to See Everything
You can eat, hike, shop laugh for an entire weekend- but don't stress and try to see it all. Come back and visit!
One Last Don't: Don't Be Afraid of the Desert Respect it, prepare for it, and use a little common sense. Joshua Tree isn't something you need to conquer. Slow down, look around, and enjoy being somewhere completely different.
Where You Stay Matters
After a day in the park, you probably won't need another attraction.
You need somewhere comfortable to take off your hiking shoes, eat something, sit outside and look at the stars.
Desert Willow Retreat is a Joshua Tree vacation rental for up to six guests, close to the national park and designed as a comfortable home base for actually experiencing the area—not just sleeping between activities.
